to Blessings to all our family and friends at the beginning of a New Year--from Bruce, Susy, Daniel, and Linnea Robison, as we celebrate our 34th (!) Christmastide here in Pennsylvania . . . .
2019 has been a year of many changes.
Since we moved to Pittsburgh from Bloomsburg in the summer of 1994 Susy <susyrobison@yahoo.com> has worked as a Manager for the ARAMARK Dining Services at Duquesne University, as Director of Volunteers and Director of Hunger Programs at the East End Cooperative Ministry, as Director of Volunteer Services at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and as Director of Volunteers and Outreach with the Homeless Children's Education Fund. On Friday, May 24th, she retired! The Staff and Board of Directors of HCEF had a great reception for her that evening, and the next day, Saturday, May 25, family and friends and colleagues and admirers from every corner of her life gathered for an afternoon of Music and Tributes. It was a beautiful day. And after church on Sunday, May 26, Susy flew to the old family home in Scituate, Massachusetts, where she began a leisurely summer of rest and creative recovery. Since that day of her retirement she has been working on her novel, learning to play the banjo (!), and exploring new approaches to daily life. She is continuing her long participation in the Carlow University "Madwomen in the Attic" Creative Writing Program, and she continues as well to work with Contemplative Outreach Pittsburgh as a Centering Prayer teacher and group leader.
As 2019 comes to an end we are also celebrating my <revbmrobison@gmail.com> retirement after 25 1/2 years as Rector of St. Andrew's Church. Members and friends of St. Andrew's, clergy colleagues, and a wide circle of folks from the wider community gathered on November 17 for a festive service of Choral Evensong at the Church and then for an evening of dinner and music and "toasts and roasts." The following Sunday, November 24, was my last service, and in weeks following I have been devoting my time to the pastoral and administrative tasks needed for a smooth transition.
While this formal retirement marks the end of my service as Rector of St. Andrew's, I do hope to remain active in ministry, with opportunities to serve the church here in our Pittsburgh diocese, and perhaps beyond, on a more flexible part-time basis in the years ahead. I also hope to do some blogging, and maybe some photography (thus this under-construction website), to go to a few more baseball games during the summer, and to have a bit more time to putter in the yard.
Daniel <dmonroerobison@gmail.com> was about the most stable of the Robisons in 2019. He continues in his work as a sales and leasing consultant for Baierl Subaru in the suburban North Hills area and this coming January will be moving from his current apartment to a duplex apartment not far from the dealership. He continues as well with interests in literature and film, philosophy, politics, and economics, and is coordinator of the Pittsburgh regional "Bitcoin Meet-up" group.
Mom, Dad, and Big Brother were all delighted this past spring when Linnea <linneabird@gmail.com> told us that she had spoken with her regional supervisor about the possibility of arranging a transfer from her position as Veterinarian at the Pompano Beach, Florida, Banfield Pet Hospital (where she had been working since her graduation from Vet School in 2015) to the new Banfield Pet Hospital being opened here in the East End of Pittsburgh. She arrived in mid-July, lived with the folks for a couple of months, and in October took up residence in an apartment in the East Liberty neighborhood Bakery Square development--just a block from work and only 10 blocks or so from our place in Highland Park. Since the summer she's had a great time getting established in her new position and also reconnecting with many of her old childhood, high school, and college friends still in the area.
So indeed, 2019 a big year for the Robisons. We do send all our love, best wishes, and abundant blessings for 2020 to all our family and friends, near and far.
